Conclusion

Storytelling has always been a passion of mine, and in recent years within my own practice I have been playing with sequential imagery. Taking a more in-depth look into the creation of comics and graphic novels, as well as the illustrators behind them has really encouraged me to pursue this form of illustration in the future. In the words of a fellow illustrator, one of the most exciting aspects of graphic novels is “creating this whole world that readers can step into and appreciate and enjoy.” (Berry, 2015). I think my own queer identity has played a major role in my own illustrations, and I am looking forward to exploring these themes further, and hopefully making at least one fellow queer person feel seen in the process.
